Hydropower station named ASAHAN No.1 is one of the hydropower station of upper stream of ASAHAN river in Indonesia. This paper elaborates the relative design of control, protection, communication of this power station in detail, especially the design of protection relay in this power station. The planned installed capacity of ASAHAN No.1 power station is 2×90 MW, and the designed annual operation time and annual generation are 6600 hours and 1179 GWh respectively. This power station is very important in the local power grid of Indonesia, and plays an important role in power grid stability. The unit-transformer connection adopts unit connection, and there are 2 275kV outgoing lines at the high voltage side of main transformer, which means there are 2 incoming lines and 2 outgoing lines of 275kV. The 275kV scheme adopts one and a half configuration, which is uncommon in other domestic power stations of equal scales. This paper is formed by 6 chapters, describing each detail process from initial design, problem settlement, design coordination, and finally successful generation. As control, protection and communication design is closely relative to single line design, the paper includes some brief introduction to main single line design. In the practical construction, the complexity of oversea projects had caused the higher complexity of this power station protection design. All the design concerning to control, protection and communication design is divided into 11 parts, including the design of relative systems as supervision and auxiliary power station control, etc. besides the detail introduction of relay protection.Till 2015, the power station has been in operation for 4 years, and all the improvements during operation are all included as well.
