Schedule management is an important content of project management. On the aspect of management research at home and abroad, has accumulated rich experience in management theory and practice. For engineering construction projects, the progress is one of the three major goals. As the owner, to a greater degree of focus on the progress. Along with our country joining the WTO, the construction market fully open, and gradually introduce general contracting and project management enterprise management mode, will further cause the "owner" project management under the mode of the schedule management related theory and method discussed in this paper. So, in the process of practical engineering project management, how to effectively schedule management is a worth studying further.As the project management theory development, more and more progress management methods has been applied constantly. But in the current engineering construction field, using more schedule management method is still the critical path method(CPM). Whether the project owners or generation of the owner’s project management units, in the project’s overall progress plan and the node progress goal, mostly uses the gantt chart and network diagram. In addition, the project contractor in all levels of project construction progress plan, also use the gantt chart and network diagram. Because of the CPM has the characteristics of simple and clear, focused, and the CPM has been widely used in the engineering construction management. Of critical path method not only can be used to find the key lines and find out the key work, and can be optimized by time limit for a project, cost optimization and resource optimization method, optimize the network chart plan, improve the target capacity to meet the constraints.In this paper, by combining highway KAYANG generation owner project management(PM), on the theory of project management and the critical path method, as a generation of owner side is to research the project schedule control. In the process of schedule control, preparation of total project progress plan and to adjust and optimize the plan, introducing the schedule risk management process,analysis the reasons of the lagging of the influencing factors of progress and schedule, and finally puts forward total target adjustment and management advice. By discussing the progress management of related theory and practice, to explore the PM model schedule management experience and methods. Research presented in this paper for the domestic highway engineering projects or similarity engineering project schedule management in order to provide the beneficial reference.
