Pneumatic technology is with advantages of energy saving, efficient, low cost, no pollution, simple structure, safe and reliable. With the development of industrialization and automation, Pneumatic technology has been applied to all walks of machinery and production line at present. As the main actuator of the pneumatic system, cylinder is one of the most widely used pneumatic components. Cylinder’s performance directly affects whether the entire pneumatic system can reliably complete its set function. Studying on the cylinder performance has a guiding role of cylinder production, using, development, customer service service etc. This paper analyzed the performance of the MB32-250 cylinder produced by the SMC Company, established a cylinder performance test platform, test and study for the performance of this type of cylinder.The paper stars from the history and application of pneumatic technology as well as its characteristics and development trend. Then it introduces the topic origin and the research significance that clears the main content of the research. In the second chapter it introduces the structure of test cylinder, and the output force and leakage of the cylinder is analyzed and calculated. The speed characteristics of the cylinder, the air consumption, durability, are introduced later.Then, the paper introduces the design and implementation of the cylinder performance test platform. The cylinder installation platform is designed firstly. Further more, using the ANSYS simulation software analyze the stress distribution of the design to optimize the platform structure. Analyze and improve the stability of the platform after it installed. Build the pneumatic circuit with typical structure. Using PLC as the control core to design the test platform’s electrical control system, then it completes the programming and debugging of the control system software.Finally, it realizes data acquisition and processing through the cylinder test platform. First of all it gives a brief introduction for the pressure sensor, the IL300 laser displacement sensor and the D07-18 AMmass flow controller which are used for collecting the cylinder performance data. Then it introduces the test principle and method of cylinder’s leakage and initial pressure. Go a step further collects and analyses cylinder’s leakage and initiative pressure data. Through the waveforms of displacement, pressure and time response when the cylinders are running, analysis the travel time, speed and transient of the cylinders.
