With the development of modernization, the mount of high buildings reach a large number in urban area, especially in those metropolitan cities. Those buildings are very attractive, and bring much enjoyment to passer-by, while they also have brought about a variety of problems. To keep the outside walls clean and slow down the its material decay, caused by environmental pollution, the outside walls need regular cleaning and maintenance. As a result, Building Maintenance Unit(BMU) has born at the right moment, as a new type equipment for installation and maintenance of outside walls. To improve the design of BMU and keep it work safely and reliably, a computer aided analysis system of BMU is developed, mainly about three major components of jib, pillar and base. The traditional finite element analysis of BMU model widely uses a single-way modeling method. In other words, it means that it can not change on a large scale, if the model depends on a set of data. Thus, with a little change, the work will start again from the initial point(modeling). It’s not convenient for designers on account of the heavy work and tedious process. In order to solve this problem, this thesis mainly studies the parametric modeling process for BMU, and finite element analysis for different working conditions based on the internal command and APDL language in the ANSYS software. Then develop friendly man-machine interfaces using Visual Basic to encapsulate the complicated APDL commands. When designer use the software, they need to input the various sizes directly and change the different parameters such as the material properties, the density of grid and the load at the VB interface. With the convenience of graphical interface and input windows, the ANSYS beginners also can operate the software quickly. It’s easy to use and efficient to shorten the design cycle of new product.
