In recent decades, driven by the development of power electronics, automatic control, motor control and computer technology, AC frequency conversion technology develops rapidly and has a wide range of applications. However, due to the intensifying competition in electric power market, as well as the national implementation of energy conservation and emissions reduction policy in all industrial production field, the power generation companies are actively looking for effective method of saving energy and reducing consumption in production.AC frequency conversion technology has the incomparable superiority to other traditional speed control device in energy saving, precision of speed and speed range, and it can realize the communication conveniently with the automatic control system(such as DCS system, etc.). Because of these characteristics, AC frequency conversion technology has become one of the important technical innovation means for the current various power generation enterprises, for saving energy and reducing consumption, improving the control performance and enhancing the production efficiency. This article will do the research and analysis for the application of AC frequency conversion technology in thermal power plant.This article consists of three parts: the overview of AC frequency conversion technology, the application of AC frequency conversion technology in thermal power plant and the application analysis of AC frequency conversion technology in Huaneng Shantou Power Plant. Based on the study of working principle of inverter AC frequency conversion technology, electronic devices, the main circuit and control technology of inverter, this article will make a more comprehensive and in-depth understanding of the energy-saving transformation by using AC variable frequency technology in auxiliary equipment of the thermal power plant.In combination with examples of frequency conversion transformation of the condensate pump A motor in Unit 3 and the blower motor in Unit 2 of Huaneng Shantou Power Plant, this article will verify the energy saving effect of variable frequency speed regulation technology in actual production. In order to optimize and upgrade the AC frequency conversion technology, this article will try to make a comprehensive analysis and summary for the actual operation efficiency and problems during the frequency conversion for the auxiliary equipment, which will provide a reference for the application of AC frequency conversion technology in industrial production.
