| In 2011, China’s urbanization rate reached 50% for the first time, marking the urbanization of China has entered the second half of the accelerated development stage. Historical experience has shown that 50% to 70% of urbanization stage is a critical period changing from the amount to the quality of growth. As the biggest developing country in the world, the coming of the urban society is both an opportunity and challenge. Therefore, in this historical turning point, it is necessary to think deeply about the development way of the 50%-70% phase.Throughout the Chinese and foreign, although different countries and regions have different character of state, political system, social ideology and economic development level, their paths and the processes of urbanization are various, but the inherent law of development of human society is also exist. Thus, there are certain commonalities beyond the forms in the historical trend of urbanization. The essence of city is the spatial agglomeration of elements. The population size and spatial distribution is an important quantitative index of spatial agglomeration. The study focuses on the population agglomeration, selecting countries which urbanization rate has reached 70% with large population and land area as study objects. The First Chapter is the introduction part, elaborating the research background, purpose and significance, and the related research at home and abroad, then introduces the overall framework of the thesis, research methods and innovation points. The Second Chapter introduces the connotation of urbanization through theoretical analysis and interpretation of the definition of urbanization, the universal law of development and relevant theories of agglomeration and dispersion of in-depth discussion. The Third Chapter elaborates on the basic data and analysis methods, defining the data analysis object and the data source and data processing methods. The Fourth Chapter Compares the population agglomeration characteristics in process of the urbanization using empirical analysis method. The study points out that the spatial agglomeration is the common phenomenon in the process of urbanization. The Fifth Chapter discusses urban development strategies and internal differences behind spatial agglomeration, comparing the effect and the mechanism of the guidances. At present, countries which basically completed the urbanization can be divided into two categories as high-income countries and middle income countries. Two categories have different urban development paths, resulting in different spatial structures of urban development. The Sixth Chapter discusses the development of Chinese urbanization in 50%-70% phase on population agglomeration and the inevitability of middle-income stage. Based on international comparison of urbanization, China in the 50%-70% phase of urbanization development stages should respect the universal laws, getting ready for the real challenge of population spatial agglomeration; At the same time, more attention should be pay to on differentiation phenomenon in the 30%-70% phase of urbanization development, facing up to the inevitability of the middle-income stage. |
