Under the condition of traditional design based on two-dimensional drawings, design of each major in MEP(Mechanical,Electrical and Plumbing) is independent and it is limited by insufficient of two-dimensional drawings. Mistakes such as pipeline conflict always occur in MEP design as there is no way to obtain building information completely. Obviously, project will be delayed if these problems can’t be solved.BIM(building information technology) received widespread attention in China. BIM has the characteristics of visualization and being able to optimize, and it provides a coordinate design platform for different majors. BIM application in MEP design of metro can solve existed problems effectively. This paper studied on optimization method of BIM-based comprehensive pipeline design of metro. Firstly, by clarifying research status of BIM technology at home and abroad and value realization of BIM, existed problems in present MEP design of metro were analyzed and conception of importing BIM into optimization of comprehensive pipeline design of metro was proposed. Then, problems of project participants not being able to communicate timely were solved by creating network-based collaborative work mode for various project participants. Also, in order to solve comprehensive pipeline conflicts and difficulties of spatial arrangement, the BIM-based collision detection, wandering in BIM model and 4D construction simulation were put forward. And the method on how to improve efficiency of collision detection was given. Finally, BIM model of a metro was built to realize optimization of comprehensive pipeline, and configuration diagram of the metro’s comprehensive pipeline and statistical table of project amount were achieved, which proved the feasibility of the proposed optimization method of BIM-based comprehensive pipeline design of metro.
