As a special kind of gear, non-circular gear with its special geometry and kinematics of the transmission characteristics can achieve variable gear ratio transmission that required in some special mechanism. Such as metal cutting machine tools, heavy machinery, light industry machinery, flow meter, etc., can consider to use non-circular gear to achieve. With the development of science and technology, the non-circular gear’s design and manufacture is becoming more and more easily to implement, so its application is becoming more and more widely. In this paper, we research the elliptical gear’s application in screening device which is one of the most common and widely non-circular gears.As the low efficiency in traditional garbage screening device, this paper present a method that using a pair of elliptical gears in the drive system. To break through the critical speed of screening device, we use the non-uniform transmission characteristics of elliptic gear. According to current situation of modern urban garbage, this paper firstly designed a set of garbage screening device, and introduces the theoretical basis of non-circular gear design, then on this basis design the elliptical gear pair that meet requirements in screening device. In the design process, we abandoned the traditional methods which design the section curve by using a large number of calculations. Here, by combined the use of MATLAB and Pro/E we achieve the parametric design that can be more efficient and more accurate to design the elliptical gear, and realize the parametric. Finally we accomplish the elliptic gears’ dynamics simulation analysis with ADAMS. By exert the drive torque and load on the elliptical gear pair that required in screening device, we compare the output angular velocity, tooth mesh, frequency of mesh, consumption of motor power with the theoretical value. By doing this, on the one hand we can verify whether the design of elliptic gears can be used in the screening device, on the other hand we can also verify the feasibility of the method design of elliptic gears. At the same time we also lay the foundation for further studies in the elliptical gear that can apply in screening device for the future.
