Historic district should be protected for that it sees the urban historical culture revolution. However, soaring of urban traffic demands leads to the increasing traffic pressure of historic district. In order to relieve the contradiction of the urban traffic demands and historic district protection, it is suggested to use the rich branches and streets inside the historic district to organize traffic microcirculation.Firstly, this paper discusses transportation microcirculation system from three aspects of transportation microcirculation system, i.e. system factor, structure and function. The transportation microcirculation system of historic district was defined according to the historic district features. With the analysis of the contradiction between historic district traffic supply and demands, the necessity and feasibility of historic district transportation microcirculation is expounded to reach the implementing goals.Secondly, branches inside historic district play the role of material carrier in transportation microcirculation system, however, these branches should be optimized because it is hard to carry out microcirculation with its complex traffic situation. Combined with the investigation and analysis of the historic district road condition, this paper summarizes the road-use-function, according to which, the road is divided into 3 grades. What’s more, according to the grades, the road cross-section and vehicle speed is graded, which provide premise for the transportation microcirculation of historic district.Based on the historic district road classifications, a bi-level planning transportation organization model was built targeting on increasing transit efficiency, deceasing bypass distance, by pass time and environmental pollution, besides, the model solution process is shown with Trans CAD.As an organic comprehensive transportation system, the transportation microcirculation not only should take vehicle traffic organization into consideration, but also should pay attention to slow traffic organization, bus route planning and parking organization based on the historic district transportation microcirculation, further more, the municipal pipeline transform and historic district facility transform which block the development of the transportation microcirculation should be taken into account. At last, taking Caoshi District of Kaifeng as an example, it is demonstrated that the research result shave efficiency and feasibility. The study is supported by the Midwest Historic City Protection and Reconstruction of Historic District Space Transportation Planning Theory and Methods Research Fund(National Natural Science Foundation, NO.51278396).
