The technology of abrasive water jet cutting is developed in recent years. It is a “cold” cutting technology, which carried out at common temperature. There is no dust, no odor, no gas generation, no pollution and low noise when it is operated. The technology of abrasive water jet cutting has broad application prospects. With the rapid development of large-scale water jet cutting platform, driving mode has become the focus of research scholars.The driving mode of water jet cutting platform is directly related to the cutting characteristic of water jet cutting platform.This paper will research the characteristics of the cutting platform with the laboratory existing cutting platform driven by linear motor and cutting platform driven by ball screw(DWJ1425-FB).Driving mechanism is an important part of water jet cutting platform, has great influence to the acceleration and deceleration of the cutting nozzle and the cutting precision of the cutting platform and so on. This paper analyzes the abrasive suspension jet cutting mechanism of the material. On this basis, we set experimental variables include the cutting pressure, sliding speed, cutting position, cutting acceleration to comparative analysis the vibration response, speed of drive mechanism and cutting quality of the cutting platform. Conclusively proven that linear motor drive system with cutting speed, high stability, fast response, without intermediate transmission mechanism etccharacteristics, more suitable for large abrasive water jet cutting platform which have high acceleration, high speed, big load etc characteristics. We research the cutting characteristics of before mixing abrasive waterjet platform driven by linear motor, which provide a basis for the selection of the motor drive during the large water jet cutting platform design.
