Nowdays, air pollution and energy shortages have become challenges for each country in the world. In China, there are many small and medium sized boilers in industrial and commercial enterprises. Due to the low-level automation, these boilers have many serious problems, such as incomplete coal burning, higher exhausted oxygen and a greater heat loss. These problems result in lower heat efficiency and a great waste of energy, and even more pollute the environment. With the development of advanced control theory and embedded technology, we can apply advanced control theory to boiler control system by taking the advantage of embedded processor’s low power consumption, minute extension and strong specificity. Therefore, it is effective and promising to enhance automation level of boiler’s control.Based on the in-depth analysis to the industrial boiler automatic control system, the subject designs a new type intelligent controller which regard drum water level as the control object and combines the PSO, fuzzy control with conventional PID algorithm. PSO algorithm can solve the difficulties in tuing the PID controller and Fuzzy-PID controller parameters which depend on human experience. Applying the new type intelligent controller to impulse three drum water level control system and making a simulation of the entire control system in MATLAB. The simulation results show that the control effect of this new intelligent controller is superior to the conventional PID controller and fuzzy PID control device.Hardware and software systems of drum water level controller are developped in the embedded Linux platform. Hardware system is designed based on low-power ARM9 microprocessor 32 S3C2440 A, and related hardware circuits are developped according to the specific requirements. The software system realizes detection, treatment and control to the boiler field signal. Boiler drum level control software system includes drivers and application. Application software develops a system of drum level control algorithm and graphical user interface, which is based on Qt/Embedded.System debugging shows that the designed industrial boiler control system based on ARM platform completes the task of boiler drum water level control and achieves the desired goals.
