The adhesion of alphalt is very important to keep the structure stability and crack resistance of the alphalt pavement. With relatively wide and low molecular weight, the mechanical performance of alphalt is very sensitive to temperature. Therefore, the alphalt is flowing with high temperature, and brittle with low temperature. Also, the performances of flexibility, durability and weather resistance are not that good. It is shown that the polymer modified asphalt or the natural(synthetic) additives can obviously improve the performance of alphalt pavement.Base on the practical applications of the modified alphalt on the highway construction in Hebei Province, a comparative study of different types of modified alphalt on the pavement performance was presented in this paper. The compatibility between pure alphalt and other alphalt modifiers(e.g. rock asphalt, lake asphalt, enhancers, anti-rutting agent, SBS) was investigated. The thermal stability of asphalt modifier in the temperature zone of 15 ℃ to 60 ℃ was compared. The factors of mechanical properties and pavement performance of the mixed alphalt was studied with dosages of AC-20 C and AC-13 C. Reasolable dosage ranges for different types of modifiers were proposed. The high-temperature performance, low-temperature performance and water stability index of the pavement were analyzed and discussed when introducing anti-rutting agent and enhancers. Finally, several technical construction problems were presented...
