Nowadays, the highway construction in China, especially the expressway construction, has entered into a rapid development stage. Asphalt, as the most widely-used material for the road paving, is in great demand in the market. However, limited by its tolerance, road asphalt is easily subjected to ruts and cracks under the heavy traffic. Hence, improving the road-surface performance, prolonging the service life of the road surface, and saving the road construction investment have become the urgent issues for the highway industry in China. Therefore, it is necessary to adopt the modified asphalt material instead of the ordinary one in the road paving to prolong the using time of the road surface.This article researches on the modified asphalt and probes into the preparation of polymer-sulfur asphalt modifier particles with sulfur as the main material and the addition of carbon powder, waste rubber powder, plasticizer, and different H2 S inhibitors etc., the measurement method of H2 S release, the optimization of the recipe, as well as the improvement on the road-paving performance. This article also provides the tests on the environmental and road-surface performance of the asphalt mixture formed by adding the asphalt modifier in proper proportion into asphalt.The results show that the asphalt road paving performance, rutting resistance and water stability can be greatly improved by adding the polymer-sulfur asphalt modifier into asphalt. Such asphalt can meet the requirements for high-level road.
