These days, as a driving force for developing technology and national economy, electrical energy has been widely used in various fields, such as dynamic, lighting, metallurgy, chemistry, communication and so on. Electrical energy is a form of energy which is economical, practical, clean and easy to control and transform. Due to a rapid increase in the nonlinear loading capacity of transformer, rectifier and many other devices, while improving the technology and economy, they also greatly increase the power harmonic, thus bringing about a decline in the quality of electrical energy. On the other hand, with the development of technology, more and more sensitive load demands higher quality of electrical energy. Therefore, it is necessary to have the quality of electrical energy detected, assessed and analyzed in order to gain an improvement.This thesis analyze five index: power deviation, frequency deviation, harmonic component, voltage fluctuation and flicker and three-phase voltage unbalance, which are used to assess the quality of electrical energy; and also discuss the measuring significance of electric parameter as well as research status and problems of current measuring apparatus. Furthermore, considering our country and IEC standard’s requirements for the power quality, an accurate and effective analytic method of power quality is presented. A power quality detector based on MSP430 single-chip. Power quality detector is also designed to real-time monitor power quality.This paper completed the design of power quality detector based on MCU and DSP processing pattern. The power quality detector can complete data acquisition function and realize the analog-to-digital conversion function based on its hardware, it can also choose discrete algorithm for voltage and current’s RMS, active power, reactive power power factor and other basic parameters of elector power; choose improved cycle algorithm for frequency; choose FFT harmonic analysis algorithm for harmonic detection based on its software. The power quality detector technical indicators are as follows: test voltage range of 0~380 V, test current range of 0.1~5A, test Frequency range of 36~63Hz, test harmonic frequency range of 1~20 times.Test and detection results indicate that power quality parameters of the power quality detector designed in this thesis meet the national standard; it is also safe, stable and reliable in operation. In the final part, innovation and deficiency of this article together with next period’s research orientation and expectation are illustrated.
