With the rapid development of urbanization, population explosion and the urban construction intensify the environmental deterioration and make it impossible to meet the requirement of urban citizen to the ground greenery. Utilizing the city buildings to develop vertical planting has become one of optional plan to solve this problem. At the same time, users prefer the vertical planting of buildings for its colorful and various new images, so it is a project that worth researching and discussing. At present, there are still certain technique limitations existing in the development of the vertical planting of buildings. Considering the reasons mentioned above, the article studies the influence on the exterior design of architectures’ facade caused by vertical planting, the contradiction resulted from the combination of vertical planting and the facade of architectures and the corresponding technique solution. It aims at discussing how vertical planting could be applied in the urban building more appropriately and effectively. Since the vertical planting has been restricted by climatic condition, the research range of this article is only confined in south of China.The article is divided into four parts: the first part is introduction, including the background research to relevant projects and the explanation of certain concepts, the purpose and meaning of the research, the related domestic and foreign study as well as the structure of this thesis. The second section analyzes the factors and contributory elements of vertical planting, on the basis of the practical investigation and the experience in abroad and domestic development in the design of architecture’s vertical planting, and summarizes the contradiction existing in the supplication of vertical planting in the buildings’ facades. The relevant problems have been put forward in this part as well. The third part starts from the integrated design of the vertical planting and buildings’ facades, discuses the new overall effect formed through actual situation contrast of material, the dynamic changes of lights, the performance of color and the difference of the building’s height and analyzes the proper way to combine architectures’ facades with vertical planting. The last section makes analysis to the generation method of planting on the facade of architecture andthe endurance as well as the leaking caused to the wall of architecture in the process of planting in accordance with the vertical planting technology. The corresponding solutions have been provided to discuss the development of buildings’ vertical planting in urban environment. At last, the analysis and conclusion has been given.
