Intelligent, convenient and low power consumption is the inevitable developing trend of electronic products, including gas meters. To meet the market demand, how to produce longevous and cost-effective gas meters and how to design a convenient meter reading system have become focus of gas meter industrial competition, also, are inevitable trend of development of the gas meter industries. The current gas meter mainly for civil use, the information that the gas meter contains is really less, and the safety of the meter is really low. They lack for measures to protect the user’s loss and its valve flow is small. Its means of meter reading is mainly based on manual labors, and partially based on IC card. The meter for civil use apparently does not apply to industrial production. To meet industrial and commercial demand, we need to produce a kind of meter that is applicable for industry and commerce, and we need puts forward a set of meter reading system which is suitable for it.To meet the demand of the practice company, in this paper, I design a kind of intelligent gas meter which is applicable for industry and commerce, the gas meter is of high compatibility, it can fit different flow meters of different manufacturers. The meter reading system based on IP protocol is convenient and quickly. In this paper, the main work and achievements that I do are as follows:1. First of all, I analysis the structure of the common gas meters, looking up all kinds of information and making a conclusion. Then I raise a set of design scheme that can be carried out and then systematically planning the precept. And, I do a requirements analysis;2. In terms of the hardware system, I propose the project of the main circuit and some peripheral control circuit of the intelligent gas meter including power supply circuit, clocking circuit and alarm circuit, etc;3. In terms of software system, I realize the basic function of peripheral circuit of the gas meter, ensuring the feasibility of gas meter’s normal operation and ensuring the feasibility of automatic meter reading system;4. The success of a functional test of the whole system marks that gas meter is achieved as a desired effect and meets the requirements of the company and country standard. Finally, I make a summary and put forward a prospect for further research.
