Research Of Public Space In University Campus

The rise of knowledge-based economy in 21st century makes the school-running model and concept of higher education transform from selective education to higher education popularity.Contemporary university education put foster students’ abilities in the first place, so that students should extend the class from classroom to every corner in the campus.Public space, as an important carrier of school life, becomes the most vibrant space, and turns into the filter of total space in school.This paper begins with fundamental researches on university campus public space from two aspects, the history of university campus public space and types of university campus space configuration. Secondly, this paper analyzes university students’ basic pattern of behavior from five aspects, university students’ campus demand, types of behavior, behavior patterns, behavioural characteristics, and behavior-inertia.Thirdly, this paper points out generals contradictions between situation of university campus public space design in China and students’ behavior and explains my own thinking about contemporary university campus public space design.Finally, I finished the design for Jingdezhen Ceramic Institute campus public space under the guidance of theories and experiences of this paper.
