Research On The Thought And Method Of Moderate Design Of The Product

There are some questions in the development of China’s product design: like ecological damage and resource consumption resulting from the rapid development of domestic industrialization, the popularity of Consumerism caused by commercialization, Market limitations owing to the low overall level of domestic product design. So, how to solve those problems through design methods is a good question that worth designers’ thinking. In this article, I will treat the famous Japanese department store brands "MUJI" as a source of inspiration, then expound and prove Appropriate design concepts as the central argument of this paper gradually through understanding of the value standard of design that MUJI uphold in its product design, cultural heritage, business, environmental protection and other aspects. "Appropriate" means that not to go to extremes, and it pursuits a moderate state of harmony. The reason why domestic product design is not good is we do not master the boundary between moderate and excessive. Then Appropriate design which combines the "moderate" thought with the design activities will be a very worthy research topic.Appropriate design is not only the result of Designers reflect on the phenomenon of excessive design, but also a research of how to meet the needs of users from an overall aspect. We should take cultural difference, economic costs, environmental protection and other factors into consideration. Only we eliminate contradiction happened in the development of design in a scientific way, a moderate attitude, and a long-term perspective, can we reached at balance between man and society environment system.In this paper, the main contents contains four parts: first of all, explain the meaning of "moderate" and Appropriate design by analyzing the problems faced in the development of modern design in China; Second, describe the origin and development of Appropriate design thought, it will be explained based on the understanding of methods, analysis of ideas, design thinking. Analyze its effect Starting with the guide function of the design; Third, Introduce the balanced principle and the practical and realistic principle of Appropriate design, then propose an appropriate product design method; Finally, analyze the feasibility of China’s practice of Appropriate design according to the requirement that connotation of Appropriate design asks for designers.
