Since the day of its birth, Botanical Garden has been assuming the mission of coordinating the development of human and nature harmoniously. And both the speed and the scale of its construction have reached an unprecedented level since Reform and Opening in our country. Today both its quantity and quality have been being greatly improved, meanwhile, its types, connotations and functions are continuously been enriched and extended as well. Compared with the famous botanical gardens of foreign countries, certainly, the ones of our country still have a more space for improvement in all aspects. Compared with those foreign masterpieces/outstanding works, certainly, the ones of our country have a more room to improve in various aspects as yet.Under the background of constructing the sponge city system in our country. On the basis of the construction of Sponge City System of today and the principles of Low Impact Development planning and design. A planning and design method on a new type Botanical Garden which named Rainwater Harvesting Botanical Garden to meet the connotation requirements of Sponge City, will be explored in this thesis, after a primarily analyzing about the development of domestic and international Botanical Gardens in its history, current situation and contemporary trend. Through the above research, the thesis will try to fix the position and clear the connotation of Rainwater Harvesting Botanical Garden, and discuss the different aspects of its planning and design, including the function layout, the landscape structure, the Low Impact Development System, the tour line and identification system, etc. The whole thesis provide a certain reference for the diversified development of our country’s contemporary Botanical Gardens.
