Study On Architectural Craftsmanship For The Form Of Song Dynasty

Chinese traditional architecture has developed into a complete, stable construction system from the latter half of 10th century to the 13th century AD. Traditional architectural craftsmanship for timber-framed structure has achieved a high degree of standardization and systematization at this time. As a very important time of the development process of traditional architectural craftsmanship, the traditional architectural craftsmanship for the form of Song Dynasty showed abundant valuable ideas and building experiences, especially marked with YING ZAO FA SHI published in the second year of CHONGNING (AD 1103).As a technology system of Chinese traditional architectures, traditional architectural craftsmanship contains the design ideas, construction methods, working procedures, tools using, materials processing, and cultural customs related to traditional construction. In this paper, the writer attempts to record and systematize the traditional architectural craftsmanship for the form of Song Dynasty. According to the records in YING ZAO FA SHI, reference the construction methods of ancient architectures of Song Dynasty, Liao Dynasty and Jin Dynasty. Summarize the craftsmanship of construction procedures. And on this basis, analyze the inner thoughts and design concepts of traditional architectural craftsmanship for the form of Song Dynasty, and discuss its value in the inheritance process of traditional architectural craftsmanship.
