With the development of technology, it will become increasingly complex in future wars, obtaining control of the air is more and more important for any country. The Helmet Mounted Display system (HMDs) gains more attention as a carrier of significant information. From the perspective of industrial design, the appearance is analyzed and the relevant theories are explored. An innovative design of helmet is conducted to optimize the information layout and to reduce the weight on pilots. A finite element analysis of the model is done.Started with the issue that the weight of helmet brings both physical and psychological harm to pilots, the article studies operating principle, observation mode and five kinds of flight modes, while impacts of the helmet are qualitatively analyzed through mechanical theories and exploration solutions are proposed. To make the helmet more scientific and reasonable, visual information (sight, vision, perspective and stadia) is analyzed; the range of head size is calculated based on national standards, which will provide a size reference of helmet shape design.Modules of HMDs are analyzed with semantic difference method and Kansai engineering theories, innovative design is conducted through chosen images. Main body, sun visors and auxiliary equipment are separately designed and combined to export high fidelity renderings and details; finite element analysis is done on the model in order to draw the body pressure analysis chart and the results in turn are used to help with the optimization of the helmet shape.Kansei engineering, ergonomics,human factors engineering, design psychology and finite element analysis, etc. are used in the article to do the design more innovative and optimization. Rhino, keyshot and SolidWorks, Photoshop, Illustrator etc. are used in the demonstration. The whole process provides a reference to the design and optimization, which will also have an important guiding significance on optimizing the shape of the helmet.
