Virtual assembly technology, used to simulate the assembly process in the environment of virtual reality, is a high and new technology. Virtual assembly technology combines the virtual reality technology and CAD technology, It constructs a virtual assembly environment for product, which used to verify the assembly design and assembly process. Finding out problems in the assembly, modifying the model and showing assembly process intuitively should be done before the product assembly. Compared with the traditional assembly design, virtual assembly technology can meet the requirements of concurrent engineering, realize virtual assembly process simulation and find out problems in product design timely. The assembly quality and the assembly efficiency are improved and the assembly cost is reduced.In the general assembly of SWC type cross universal coupling, It is easy to cause collision, interference and even impact in assembly process because the size and weight of some parts are relatively large and the assembly space of the joint, with compact structure, is limited, thus the performance of the product will be affected. The virtual assembly process of cross universal coupling, as the research object, is studied deeply based on DELMIA virtual assembly simulation software in this paper. The main contents are as follows.(1) Virtual assembly and its key technology and the information composition of the virtual assembly model are described. The virtual prototype model of SWC 1100/1200×12000 cross universal coupling, and the structure of it is analyzed.(2) The virtual assembly process planning of cross universal coupling is completed and the assembly sequence and path of all parts are generated. Then, the formation process of the key parts of the cross axle assembly path is described in detail, and a reasonable and feasible assembly path is got.(3) In DELMIA, the virtual assembly environment of the cross universal coupling is built. Then, the dynamic simulation of the cross universal coupling assembly process is realized and the interference in the assembly process is evaluated. Last, the interference test report is generated, and the unreasonable interference phenomenon are corrected.(4) The overall layout, structure and working principles of the 3D visualization simulation system are studied. Then, the cross universal coupling stereo image, which is used as an intuitive, convenient and visual platform for designers to facilitate interactive operation, is generated in this system...
