The influence of space weather on the operation of the power grid is caused by the magnetic field disturbance caused by the solar activity. The earth’s magnetic field disturbance is also known as the storm. During a geomagnetic storm, the electric field of the earth layer induced, the electric field changes in the large electric power network caused by induced current (GIC) generation and propagation. GIC generally through the site of the transformer neutral point into the power grid circuit. This may cause the distortion of the excitation current, the local overheating, the abnormal vibration and noise, and the protection device to produce the bad consequence, which threaten the stable operation of the power system. Impact on the operation of the whole power system. Because of the reliable supply of electric power to the development of the national economy, the damage to the power grid of GIC is often accompanied by the bad influence on the local production and the huge economic loss.With the development of China’s power grid, power transmission from west to East, long distance high voltage engineering propulsion, power grid structure of our country is becoming more and more complex, space weather disturbances caused by GIC to the grid bring security risks is also increasingly apparent. It is very important to study the theory of GIC level assessment, and put forward a more feasible GIC forecasting model, and combine with the advanced computer technology to build the GIC monitoring and assessment model.This paper first analyzes the causes of the GIC and the mechanism of the failure of the electric power system, and expounds the harmfulness of GIC. Based on this, a GIC level forecast model is proposed, which is based on CME related parameters, and the factors that affect the generation and transmission of GIC are analyzed, and the GIC level forecast index system is established.Secondly, the establishment of GIC level assessment model base. Combined with the historical data collected by GIC monitoring system and the forecast information of solar activity, a total of 5 kinds of algorithms are gathered, which supports GIC level prediction, GIC control scheme optimization and GIC level calculation function. On the basis of analysis and design of these models, using ASP.NET technology to build the model library, the evaluation model is described using XML language, while the database is used by the original SQL Server.Finally, this paper makes a functional improvement on the existing GIC on-line monitoring and assessment system, and uses the Services Web interface technology to interact with the data from the monitoring system and the monitoring system.
