Due to the traditional Marshall compaction method can’t simulating the actual working condition of the road completely, the Strategic Highway Research Program(SHRP) has developed a set of new asphalt mixture design system—Superpave method,one of the major technological achievements is rotating compaction method, this method can make the different size of aggregate better wedging, dense and better simulate actual road construction rolling process, it has been generally recognised,which is widely used in road construction.This paper is based on the proposed road project, which is located in Ejinaqi Inner Mongolia Hangtian Road 88 km of Beijing-Xinjiang Expressway connecting Linhe-Baigeda. Design asphalt mixture and verify road performance by Gyratory compaction, These two types of gyratory compaction method and Marshall method are compared and analysed from asphalt mixture and road structure.The project belongs to the strong ultraviolet radiation area in the northwest of China, it is easy to cause the aging phenomenon of asphalt pavement. Firstly, design the AC- 16, AC-20, ATB-30 asphalt mixture by Gyratory compaction method, and determine the optimum proportion of asphalt mixture; Secondly, Analysis of the asphalt mixture of road performance from high temperature stability, low temperature crack resistance and water stability,by indoor UV aging of the AC-16 asphalt mixture,and study the effect of UV aging on the performance of asphalt mixture,which is designed by Gyratory compaction method; Thirdly, analysis the difference and correlation of asphalt mixture,which is designed by Gyratory compaction method andMarshall method. The last but not list, the mechanical properties in pavement structure of the proposed road project can be calculated by Bisar 3.0,and analysing the effect of two kinds methods to pavement structure.Through the test data analysis, get the following conclusions: the optimum proportion of asphalt mixture of AC-16, AC-20 and ATB-30 are 4.7%, 4.3% and 3.0%,and have good road performance; Through experiments prove, Gyratory compaction design method of asphalt mixture for the anti rutting, anti low temperature cracking,inhibition of water damage and ultraviolet aging resistance ability are significantly increased than Marshall design method; The establishment of Gyratory compaction specimens and Marshall specimen volume parameters of the relationship; From the analysis of calculating results it can be seen that the pavement structure designed by Gyratory compaction satisfy the use requirement, mechanical properties is superior to Marshall design method.
