In today’s greatly changing and increasing urban organization systems, updating has gradually become a way to ensure the sustainable, organic and stable development of a city while the old residential districts play a crucial and intermediate role in the complexed and huge urban stage as the small societies in big cities.In 1960s-1980 s when Chongqing, a city with strong industry production capabilities established a large batch of unit residences surrounding the plants so as to solve the housing problem of employees under the background of large amount of plants were removed to south. These residences are gradually included into the scope of the main city of Chongqing under the revolution of urban structure and gradually became deteriorating from prosperity with the reform of urban economic system and the adjustment of housing construction. Recently, these residences are facing multiple pressures from society, economy, environment, living and culture and forming increasingly sharp conflicts with the renovation construction of the city, the enhancement of social system and the sustainable development of environment. They carry the magnificent industrial culture traces of the mountain city and the living memories of the mountain city of many generations, yet they can not be adapted to the fast development of the modern city.The study focuses on the old unit residence in large-scale mining enterprise being built in 1960 s to 1980 s within the main city of Chongqing. The whole old residence system of the city covers times and regions greatly.The study tries to stand in the perspective of landscape planning and design,and focuses attention to the living area dynamic environment evolution and residential needs of area residents behavior as the breakthrough point, and examines the living environment of the characteristics of the present situation and existing problems, and references and weighs the residential population in actual use of outer environment evaluation and suggestion, with related housing area renewal theory study as an update to guide the design, in order to provide a greater variety of more extensive technical support of mountainous old urban living district.The thesis is mainly discussed from the following parts:Firstly, make statistics on the total quantity of this kind of old residence s within the main city and select representative residence from them to make on-site research on material environment and questionnaire survey of residents. The on-site survey starts from seven themes including the overall layout, construction form, roads and traffics, public space, green environment, service facilities and cultures of the residence and conclude the feature of their existences as the existing basis for the up gradation of environment outside the residential area. The latter includes the data statistics on aspects of age, family, profession, income, activity behaviors and using demands of residents in the residential area as the the practical basis for the up gradation of environment outside the residential area.Second, the study comprehensives residential area material status and needs of people and summaries the features and problems. Based on the terrain, climate and landscape environment of mountain settlements, and balances all areas in respect of the kind of residential area updates, taking organic updating, human living environment, demand level, external space, ecological living area and cultural scenic spot as the underling guidelines for the restructuring of the environment outside the residential area, and proposes adjust measures to local conditions, overall planning, people-oriented, shared space and cultural revival, Ecological Saving as six residential area renewal design principles.Third, the study renovations measures on the layout, construction, traffic, space, greening, facilities and culture of the environment outside the residential area. Optimizing function layout of living area, Living mainly and commercial supplement; In accordance with the fixed number of year, and extends the base service life; Strengthening the building facade, and promotes the use of energy-saving materials; Implementing open road system, and builds three-dimensional traffic system; Enriching the space activities of the project,and highlights the characteristics of mountain city space; Taping the potential of environmental greening, and improves the allocation of environmental facilities; At the same time, paying attention to the construction of cultural themes in residential areas,as to stimulate the recovery of the humanistic spirit.Fourth, through the current situation investigation, problem analysis and update countermeasure of "60-80 builded" large industrial and mining enterprises in Chongqing, summarizes the following conclusions,transformated residential areas focuses on public building with basic sound transportation facilities, and green space is still inadequate;Living district environment characteristics are significant, and contradiction is prominent, and cultural heritage is in the long run, and deep feelings are in the neighborhood,and update reconstruction imminents; Updating strategies focus on the protection and utilization of existing resources and the interactivity and sharing of space building; up gradation measures pay attention to the care and satisfaction of behaviors and activities and the integration and innovation of the new and old carriers.Putting forward the prospect and suggestion to the function orientation and development direction of the residential district in the future.
