Into the twenty-first Century, in the fierce competition of global economic situation,civil aviation industry of China got unprecedented development.Especially in the past ten years of rapid development, amazing.At the same time in the face of the increasing demand for air transport, airport route as a "carrier" is already overwhelmed.Many of the domestic airport operation has been in a state of saturation.Airport passenger terminal as the main activity of the carrier, is also in a crowded embarrassing situation.Therefore, with the large-scale airport expansion project has been put on the agenda of the occasion, the terminal expansion project also came into being.In civil aviation development during the "12th Five-Year Plan" period, the national new, relocation, expansion of the airport project about210, which renovation and expansion projects are about 101, about 48% of all projects,including to small and medium sized airports expansion project mainly, this type of airport accounted for total renovation and expansion to 82%. In addition, in the "12th Five-Year plan" clearly put forward to focus on the development of the Western Regional Airport, focusing on supporting the development of Tibet, Xinjiang and other regional extension. During the period of "12th Five-Year Plan", Xinjiang has started construction of the new, expansion,relocation of the airport number up to 9, the project under construction is 5. During the time of "13th Five-Year plan ", Xinjiang Civil Aviation will actively seek improvement and expansion of the 6 regional airports, including Yining airport, Kashi airport terminal area reconstruction and expansion projects. In the face of the old terminal building renovation and new terminal expansion, how to design the recent development, long-term goal planning, how to make the terminal function continued to play, every architects who worked on the design of the terminal are facing problems.This paper attempts to research the reconstruction and expansion of domestic and international airport terminal building, and summarize the type of small terminal expansion,design method, and combine with the theoretical research, for the project renovation and expansion, puting forward some design strategies because of some contradictory factors, and exploring the small terminal expansion mode by researching the Xinjiang Airport expansion and engineering practice.The first chapter is the introduction, which describes the research background, the scope of the research content, purpose and significance, and research methods and so on. The second chapter mainly studies the basic theory of the small and medium terminal design.The third chapter is the analysis of the terminal expansion causes, terminal expansion type, and summarized in the small terminal renovation and expansion of the trend.The fourth chapter puts forward some solutions to the existing problems of the terminal building renovation and expansion design.In the fifth chapter, combined with the analysis of the three Xinjiang airport terminal expansion project and the research background of the current situation, the type and the expansion method of the airport terminal in Xinjiang area to describe the research on the Korla airport terminal expansion design, at the same time, compare and analyze the produced by the two schemes, which including the existing terminal transformation, renovation and expansion of the functional space, expansion of the terminal, organizational processes,building image of exploration do in-depth analysis.The sixth chapter is the conclusion of this paper.
