The power grid in China marches towards green power grid and strong power grid and aims at realizing the development objectives of reliability, safety, economic efficiency, high efficiency. And safe use, with consequently higher production quality and management on power grid equipment, disconnector is one of the power grid equipment. Disconnector, generally refers to the high-voltage disconnector, is most widely-used in high voltage switch electrical appliances, though its operating principle and structure is simple, but because of the large amount and high working reliability requirements, it has large influence on the design, build and safe operation of substation, power plant. Because of the conductive circuit and the transmission part of high-voltage disconnector is exposed to the outside environment for a long time, so its operation reliability is affected by the wind, rain, dust and air pollution. With a large number of the "oil free" circuit breaker put into operation in recent years, the health level and operation reliability of disconnector is difficult to match with the reliability of circuit breaker and the other main power grid equipment, this will directly affect the operation reliability of the overall power system. So study the operation reliability and strengthen the operation and maintenance management of high-voltage disconnector is imperative.Although disconnector’s structure is simple, but the number of disconnector used in power system is large and it take on the responsibility of shutting off current, ensuring the life safety of power operations staff, so the operation reliability of disconnector is high or low means a lot for power system. If we want to study of disconnector maintenance strategy,the reliability of disconnector should be evaluated first. Current research on the reliability of disconnector only stays on the stage that summarized the possible failure types of disconnector in actual operation: overheat of conducting circuit, insulator rupture, operation failure, corrosion, and contrapose these failure problems happened, put forward some measures to enhance the operation reliability of disconnector, it never assess the reliability of disconnector and can not get the failure probability of disconnector of every stage in service period, can not know the running state of disconnector in different stages, can not provide maintenance suggestion for operation and maintenance personnel to maintain disconnector. In this paper, we study the reliability evaluation methods of disconnector and apply these evaluation methods to the disconnector in jiangmen power supply bureau of guangdong power grid as an example, the evaluation results will be the life distribution and health status level of disconnector. With these results, it can provide maintenance suggestion for operation and maintenance personnel to make maintenance plan and when we get the reliability evaluation results of disconnector, we can make Reliability-Based Maintenance plan for disconnector.
