With the continuous rapid development of electronic systems, the requirements of uninterruptible power supply(UPS) have become increasingly stringent. As a back-up supply of UPS, the performance of the storage battery has a direct effect on systems’ reliability service. However, traditional battery detection systems have many drawbacks, such as poor reliability, high power consumption poor flexibility and so on. In addition, traditional battery detection systems usually use wire transmission, this may cause some problems including complexity wring, hard to maintenance or even fire when the node of the battery increases. In this thesis, the VRLA battery’s characteristics and the wireless communication technology will be studied firstly; the goal is to design a wireless UPS battery monitoring system based on SimpliciTI protocol. The contributions of this thesis are summarized as followed:1) The characteristics of the VRLA battery such as structure and operating principle have been studied and the performance indexes of the VRLA battery including voltage, temperature, internal resistance and capacity have been analyzed. It is also discussed the installation and maintenance methods about the VRLA battery.2) An overall solution of the wireless UPS batteries monitoring system has been proposed and the module selection of controlling chips has been made. The hardware of this system’s sub modules such as RF transceiver circuit, voltage sampling circuit and temperature sensor has been designed. A simple internal resistance and capacitance measurement has been proposed and realized.3) A solution of wireless communication based on the SimpliciTI protocol has been designed, and the software process of each module has also been designed in the protocol. The PC monitoring software has been designed using C# language. It can not only display each parameter of the batteries real-timely, but also achieve automatic alarm of the defective batteries.4) Finally, an experiment circuit using the proposed scheme has been built to verification. The experiment result shows that the system proposed in this thesis can realize real time monitoring of the system’s parameters and the reliability of wireless communication also meet the requirements. In addition, the system also features low power consumption, high flexibility and good scalability, etc. It will be widely used in the UPS control system.This thesis is supported by CHADI Company’s fund and the whole system is self-developed.
