The application of BIM in the construction industry has attracted more and more attention these years, which brings some risks on construction projects inevitably. Those risks will seriously affect the dimensions of the entire project, including the cost, the schedule, the quality and the duration. Much attention has been paid to those risks abroad, while little study made in our country, whose literature do research mainly on BIM technology.Therefore, according to survey on risks brought by application of BIM, this paper aims to identify these risks and major risk factors, and then seek positive solutions. This paper will be of some value in application of BIM and can fulfill gaps in this subject. This paper mainly discusses contents as follows.Firstly, this paper illustrates the research situation and development significance of BIM technology. In the meanwhile, risks lie in the process of application of BIM. Then, a system of the full text is built to explain the application of Structural Equation Model(SEM) in this paper.Secondly, the definition of BIM application risk is given. After knowing the application range, this paper gives the aim of studying BIM risk factors. Furthermore, referring to risk analys is methods at home and abroad, the applicability of SEM is presented in risks study on BIM application.Thirdly, introducing the steps to identify and analyze risks, and the system for risks on BIM application is complex and multi- level. The paper identifies some risk factors from internal and external, including technique, economy, human resource, and management. Then the paper identifies the measured variables and latent variables, and then establishes a structural equation model to reflect the relationship between those risk factors.Finally, an empirical research is made to modify the SEM model. Aid by the analysis of Amos, the weight of various risk factors could illustrate the interaction between them. In the end, this paper brings up some strategies to avoid the major risk factors.
