Mixed traffic is one of main characteristic of china’s traffic. It’s serious when mixed traffic flow consisting of the motor vehicle and the non-motor vehicle comprising the bicycles and the electric bicycles operates in the non-barrier section of urban road and the safety and efficiency of the operation is poor. The research object of this paper is the non-barrier section of urban road which is very common in the large and medium-sized cities and further research on the operation features and laws of three traffic flow concluding motor vehicle bicycle and electric bicycle and it’s quite significant to manage city traffic and improve the safety and mobility.Firstly, in this paper traffic characteristics of mixed traffic flow of the non-barrier section of urban road are analyzed. On the basis of measured data analysis, basic traffic characteristics and operation features of bicycles and the electric bicycles are analyzed, and the evaluating indicators of safety and efficiency of traffic lanes are decided after studying on the characteristics of the lanes and the interference behavior between vehicles, bicycles and electric bicycles, which lays the foundation of modeling. Secondly, after introducing the classic cellular automaton model, the operation models based on cellular automaton of barrier section and non-barrier section of urban road are built respectively. The changing process of state of cells and evolution rules of model are detailed. Thirdly, the Matlab software is used to simulate the models which are already built and the simulation results of the models are are compared in the case of different road shares and mixed ratio coefficient of vehicle. The results show that when traffic lanes are in different density, the degree of safety of non-barrier section of urban road is reduced by about 76% and the efficiency is lower than that of barrier section at the same time; when the road density is certain, there is a significant impact on the safety level of road for the proportion of motor vehicle; with the increasing proportion of motor vehicles, the speed of the motor vehicles increase first and then decrease while the speed of bicycles and the electric bicycles consistently grow. Lastly, the real non-barrier section of urban road in Xi’an is simulated using the model which has been built in this paper, the simulation result is ideal-roughly consistent with the practical measure result and the error is small so that the model reliability is validated. The real non-barrier section of urban road is converted to the barrier section, and simulation is conducted in the same road share and the result show the degree of safety and efficiency of the barrier section of urban road are both increased.
