A Study On The Relationship Between Port And Port Urban Economic Development

With the deepening of people’s activities and global commerce is increasingly frequent, the influence from the ports in the process of economic development has become increasingly important. The role which ports have been playing in promoting the development of urban economy cannot be ignored. By examining the history of urban development around the world, a phenomenon can be noticed that the development of coastal cities is always accompanied by the thriving ports. At the same time, the development of the port city also has brought its port vast economic hinterland, numerous business resources and broad space for development. Therefore the relationship between port and city’s economic development is mutual. In this case,the research on the connection’s efficiency and tightness(also called the correlation)between the economic development of port and city is good for us to clear development localization and draw lessons from advanced experience. and has a positive impact on the development of the future of both sides.This article examines the relationship between the economic development of the port and city from the perspective of both qualitative and quantitative, with innovation points focused on two aspects. Firstly, on the basis of defining the relevant concepts,using Marx’s classical theory including the theory of world history, and the theory of capital flows to interpret and analysis such phenomenon as the formation and development of the port, the relations between harbor and city’s economy. Also the current situation and the evolution process of the harbor-city economic development of our country are discussed. Secondly, the concept of correlation between port and the city’s economic development is lead to the table. The evaluation system of the method of data envelopment analysis(DEA) which has been determined to be the specific quantitative analysis tool is established. With viewing the brief introduction and analysis of Lianyungang which is selected to be the evaluation sample, the conclusion of the DEA evaluation on the situation of the development in the recent ten years can be reached.Through the evaluation the conclusion can be drawn that, in a decade, the correlation between port and city’s economic development in city of Lianyungang and Rizhao have not been maintaining at a high level. In the end, this article attempts to put forward feasible suggestions which are able to promote coordinated development of harbor-city economy from the two aspects of both sides with examples, to providereferences for small and medium-sized port city such as Lianyungang to achieve the goal of healthy development.
