China launched the strategy, building ‘Silk Road Economic Belt’ with European and Asian countries in 2013, which attracted many countries’ interest and participation thanks to its building concept, ‘win-win cooperation’. Currency circulation is among the ‘Five Fertilise’ targets in building the ‘Silk Road Economic Belt’, which is aimed at lowering capital circulation cost and improving the defensive ability of the whole area against the outside world’s financial risks, at forming the mechanism of monetary cooperation within the area and finally at enhancing the whole area’s competitiveness. This thesis analyses the countries alongside the ‘Silk Road Economic Belt’ wholly and separately in political and economical views. With regards to economic theories, macroeconomic statistics calculation and current political situation, the author concludes that the integration level of economic in this area has been constantly rising and to some extent the integration level gets to be identical step by step. The conclusion deems that currency cooperation within the zone can be achieved, and expects that the final goal of the cooperation is to build a single currency area. In the view point of the author, RMB should be the core currency of this zone after comparing internationalized currencies in this zone and comprehensively research the stability and potential of the currencies. Through establishing an interregional organization of currency cooperation and setting up currency cooperation mechanisms, RMB would finally become the core currency of the single currency zone, which will provide RMB internationalization with more progress and solid currency usage zone. This thesis mainly contains five chapters:In the first chapter, the author introduces the background and meaning of this thesis and illustrates Chinese and foreign scholar’s researches on RMB internationalization, and ‘Silk Road Economic Belt’ building. Then the author demonstrates the research methods and content arrangement of the thesis, showing innovation point and confessing weakness in the thesis writing. The research scope is clarified in the end of the chapter.In the second chapter, the author introduces theories and studies on monetary cooperation of the scholars at home and aboard. The chapter reviews and compares the historical progress of the current internationalized currency and comes up with the routine of currency internationalization suitable for today, which is supportive for the following study of RMB’s participation in global currency cooperation theoretically and provides historical experience for the study.The third chapter deals with the situation of the monetary marketing running of the zone alongside the ‘Silk Road Economic Belt’ and finds out similarities and differences of them, on the basis of OCA theory. Besides eco-political analysis of the area, this chapter provides the coming-up with solid foundation of necessary current situation and condition analysis.The fourth chapter is the core of this thesis, in which the mode and routine of currency cooperation in the countries alongside the ‘Silk Road Economic Belt’ is researched. Through comparing RMB globalization with that of other internationalized currencies and choosing RMB as the core currency in this zone with assumption, the author sums up with the mode and routine of RMB’s participation in building the ‘Silk Road Economic Belt’.In the last chapter, the thesis comes to a conclusion that although the situation of the area alongside the ‘Silk Road Economic Belt’ does not satisfy the standards for OCA, the foundation of currency cooperation is solidified in the sight of economic integration’s rising and major economic statistics of main economies which get more identical. Although there are difficulties in establishing single monetary zone in the area of ‘Silk Road Economic Belt’, it is still worth expecting what will take place in the future.
