Gao Shiqi, a famous writer on popular science in China, spent most of his life on popular communication. He played an important role in the history of Chinese popular science. He not only specialized in popular scientific essay, but also created a new type of scientific literature - popular scientific poem. After the foundation of People’s Republic of China, as a leader and participant, Gao Shiqi devoted himself into the cause of science communication of China. His work deeply rooted in the society and was the symble of science culture during that times. The paper is divided into four parts. The first part provides a biographical sketch of Gao Shiqi. The second part focuses on his popular science works. The background, content, style and influences of his works are analyzed. His thoughts about the Anti-Japanese War and democracy are especially analyzed in detail. One of his famous works - biography of bacteria is analyzed as a sample. The third part gives a summary on his thoughts on science communication. The last part is about the contributions that Gao shiqi made to the career of Chinese popular science.
