Based on a review of related literatu re, field work, sample collection and statistical analysis, this thesis studies the wild ornam ental plants in Hebei Zhangshiyan Mountain Natural Reserve Zone. The research results indicate that 283 species of wild ornamental plants in 181 genera and 154 families have been found in Hebei Zhangshiyan Mountain Natural Reserv e Zone, among which are 18 species of pteridophytes in 1 1 genera and 9 fam ilies, 3 species of gym nosperm plants in 3 genera and 2 fa milies, and 262 species of an giosperm plants in 167 genera and 63 families. There are 15 dominant families of wild ornamental plants with 5 or more genera, of which rosaceous family is the first big one, accounting for nearly 10% of the total genera available here. In term s of life-form, the wild ornam ental plants here can be classified to 5 types: herbs, shrubs, trees, climbing plants and parasitic plants. The number of the genera of herbs, accounting for 2/3 of the total genera, ranks first, while the parasitic plants last. There are only two genera of parasitic plants. In term s of ornamental characteristics and structures, they can be classified to 8 types:foliage ornamentals, flower ornam entals, fruit ornamentals, foliage-flower ornam entals, flower-fruit ornamentals, foliage-fruit ornamentals, and foliage-flower-fruit ornamentals. Flower ornamentals account for more than 50% of the wild ornam ental plants in the zone. Flower ornam entals, mixed with foliage-flower ornam entals, flower-fruit ornamentals, and foliage-flower-fruit ornamentals, account for a higher percentage, i.e. nearly 75%. Rare or e ndangered species at or above the provincial level of wild ornam ental plants in this Natural Reserve include 19 fam lies and 24 species. Among them, there are 4 national endangered species and 20 provincial endangered species. Some species are surprisingly rare here. The thesis lists the types of wild ornamental plants in the zone that can be domestricated: potted plan ts, ground cover plants, he dge plants, shade plants, sidewalk plants, vertical greening plants, bedding plants, bordering plants, windbreak plants, isolated planting plants, and cut flow er plants. The thesis in troduces some of the wild ornamental plants in the zone with the aid of photos. The thesis, based on the economic development in the region where Zhangshiyan Mountain Natural Reserve Zone is located and the population of wild ormamenteal plants, proposes 4 countermeasures in favour of sustainable utilization and protection. This offers evidence for reasonab le exploitation of the resources in th e zone. These species that have a wide distribution, m ore population and strong ability to surive, such as Spiraea trilobata, Pote ntilla discolor, Rubus parvifolius, Lilium pumilum and Echinops latifolius, should be domesticated actively while be protected. For these rare and endangered species or wild ornam ental plantshaving rare distribution, such as Cornus officinalis, Lilium lancifolium and Aquilegia yabeana, we should carry out thoroughly census of germ plasm resources and reserves, esta blish gene banks, increase the protective propa ganda, restrain the excavation from local residents and tourists and implement reasonable aretifcial cultivation.
