Wild ornamental flowering plants were a sort of ornamental plants mainly viewed the floral organ. They were of highly ornamental aesthetic values with colorful flowers, beautiful gestures, pleasant fragrant, proper flowering season and etc.. Particular geographical position of Tianbaoyan nature reserve in Fujian province and the superior ecological environment had provided suitable habitat for the wild ornamental flowering plants. In 2009, the wild ornamental flowering plants had been widely and thoroughly investigated using the method of typical line–investigation. And based upon the investigation, detailed analysis and comprehensive evaluation of wild ornamental flowering plants were studied by qualitative and quantitative methods. The results were as follows:1,According to the investigation, wild ornamental flowering plants that distributed within Tianbaoyan nature reserve consisted of 281 species, representing 150 genera and 59 families. Of these, there were 248 species of dicotyledon belonging to 125 genera, 50 families and 33 species of monocotyledon belonging to 26 genera, 9 families.2,The analysis of floristic composition showed that : The dominant families containing more than 11 species were Rosaceae, Ericaceae, Leguminosae, Theaceae, Liliaceae and Orchidaceae. And the dominant genara with species beyond 10 were Rhododendron (15 species) and Camellia (11 species). As for the family distribution types, there were 31 families of tropical type, accounting for 64.58 % of the total species, and 17 families of temperate type, accounting for 35.42 % of the total. In addition, there were a total of 71 genera of tropical distribution types and 67 genera of temperate types, accounting for 51.15 % and 48.85 % of the total respectively. These indicated that the floristic composition of wild ornamental flowering plants in Tianbaoyan nature reserve was dominated by tropical elements with a transitional characteristic.3,The diversity of wild ornamental flowering plants in Tianbaoyan nature reserve was analysed from different point of view which included species richness, habitat diversity, life form, ornamental characteristics, garden function, rare nature and so on. The species and habitats of wild ornamental flowering plants were so diverse that there were different species distributed in seven different types of forest vegetation. According to Raunkiaer's life-form system and the life form system given in"Vegetation of China", the dominant life type was phaenerophyte, accounting for 62.63 % of the total with 170 species and shrubs, accounting for 33.46 %. Different types of wild ornamental flowering plants had specific differences in corolla color, corolla shape, flowering season, fragrance of flower and etc.. The garden function of the wild ornamental flowering plants in this reserve was various, including shady trees, flowering shrubs, vertical greening plants, ground cover plants, bonsai, aquatic plants (hygrophytes) and bed plants. Among the wild ornamental flowering plants, 21 species of 8 families and 17 genera presented in the reserve were rare and endangered plants.4,Tianbaoyan nature reserve is rich in wild Ericaceae and Rosaceae resources. The region hosted a total of 24 wild species of Ericaceae (belonging to 6 genera) and 30 wild species of Rosaceae (belonging to 10 genera).5,Apply Hierarchy–Gray method to evaluate the utilization value of wild ornamental flowering plants. The result came out to be that Rhododendron championae, Rhododendron mariesii, Rhododendron simsii, Lonicera japonica and etc. had a great development and utilization potential. The wild ornamental flowering plants in Tianbaoyan nature reserve was not only rich in species, but also had a abundant diversity. The research above was mainly about investigation of resources of the wild ornamental flowering plants, the floristic analysis and the diversity appraisal, which would provide a theoretical basis for effective development and sustainable use of the resources.
