The experiment was conducted to investigate the effect of different levels of the Perilla frutescens seed extract on production performance and immune function of the layer after laying peak period,in order to provide theoretical basis for reasonable application in the production of laying hens.480 48-week-old Hyline brown laying hens with the basically body weight and laying rate were chosen and randomly divided into 4 treatment groups with 6 replicates in each group and there are 20 hens in each replicate by a single factor completely randomized experimental design. The control group was fed with the basal diet, the experimental groups I,II and III were fed with the basal diet supplemented with 0.01%,0.02%,0.03% of the Perilla frutescens seed extract, respectively. The trial and pre-feeding period lasted for 30 days and 7 days, respectively. The average egg weight, rate of broken or soft egg, daily egg production,Laying rates,feed/egg and average daily feed intake were calculated according to the feed intake, the total weight of eggs, egg production, numbers of broken or soft egg and of layer in each replicate during the experimental period were recorded every day.Chose five hens randomly from each replicate on day 15 th and 30 th,collected the blood from vein under wings and then measured the contents of testosterone(T),progesterone(P),estradiol(E2),immunoglobulins(Ig M,IgA) and interleukin-2(IL-2).Chose one hen randomly from each replicate on day 30 th,autopsied, took its spleen and measured the spleen index. The results showed as follows:(1) Compared with the control group, the daily egg production of layer in supplemented with 0.01%,0.02% and 0.03% Perilla frutescens seed extract were increased by 0.45%(P>0.05),0.75%(P>0.05),6.06%(P<0.01),respectively,Laying rate was increased by 0.45%(P>0.05),0.74%(P>0.05),6.05%(P<0.01),respectively. The average daily feed intake of laying hens was improved, feed egg ratio was reduced, but the difference was not significant(P>0.05)among 4 groups, the average egg weight and rate of broken or soft egg was not significant(P>0.05);(2) Compared with the control group, the progesterone and estradiol in serum of laying hens of the group adding Perilla frutescens seed extract also had extremely significantly increased(P<0.01),and the testosterone in serum of laying hens of the group adding 0.03% Perilla frutescens seed extract had extremely significantly decreased(P<0.01);(3) Compared with the control group, spleen index had significantly increased of the the group adding Perilla frutescens seed extract,Ig G and IL-2 in serum of laying hens(P<0.01) had extremely significantly increased,Ig A in serum of laying hens(P<0.01) had extremely significantly increased of the group adding 0.02%,0.03% Perilla frutescens seed extract,Ig M in serum of laying hens had significantly increased IgM in serum of laying hens of the group adding 0.03% Perilla frutescens seed extract. In conclusion, the productive performance and immune function of layer after laying peak period were significantly increased when the basal diet supplemented the Perilla frutescens seed extract.
