Purpose To compare the influence of systemic inflammation and prostatic inflammation on BPH of patients undergone prostate biopsy. Methods From January 2010 to September 2014,302 men diagnosed with BPH by transrectal ultrasound guided prostate biopsy in the first affiliated hospital of Soochow University were studied retrospectively. They were divided into two groups according to whether had prostatic inflammation, whether the hs-CRP level was normal and whether white blood cell count was normal, respectively.Their differences of PSA、IPSS、PSAD、TPV and age were analyzed. Results TPV was(62.8±36.3) ml and(52.4±35.8) ml, IPSS was(17.7±9.0) and(15.1±9.3) in BPH combined with prostatic inflammation group and BPH group, respectively(P<0.05).IPSS was(17.9±9.2) and(15.2±9.2),PSA was(18.7±21.0) ng/ml and(13.7±14.1)ng/ml in high hs-CRP group and normal hs-CRP group, respectively(P<0.05). The Spearmans correlation analysis demonstrated that hs-CRP positively correlated with IPSS(r=0.19,P<0.05) and PSA(r=0.12, P<0.05). WBC was positively correlated with PSA(r=0.263,P<0.01) and PSAD(r=0.250,P<0.01).Conclusions Men of BPH combined with prostatic inflammation have larger TPV and higher IPSS than those of BPH in the population undergone transrectal ultrasound guided prostate biopsy.Of the systemic inflammatory markers,hs-CRP was positively correlated with IPSS, WBC was associated with PSA and PSAD. Prostatic inflammation and systemic inflammation may play a different role in BPH.
