Objective To evaluate the efficacy of hyperactivity of deficien-tfire in the treatment of facial corticosteroid-dependent derma-titis and the effect of skin barrier function by tonification and purgation in combination. Methods 1. A total of 65 patients diagnosed facial corticoster-oid-dependent dermatitis enrolled the study, treated with tra-ditional Chinese medicine and moisturizer in 8 weeks. 2. The same doctor evaluated facial erythema, papules, angio-telectasis, pruritus and burning of patients respectively every 2 weeks. 3. Some of the patients were measured transepidermal water loss(TEWL) before and after treatment.4. The same doctor recorded the Traditional Chinese Medicine Symptoms change of each patient detailedly every 2 weeks. 5. All datas were processed by SPSS, such as randomized block design analysis of variance and Chi-square test, to compare effe-acy.Results 1. 58 patients completed the study. Significant differences were observed before and after treatment(P<0.05),while the tota-l effective rates were 39.6%、79.3% respectively at the 4th week and 8th week. 2. Subjective symptoms such as facial itching and burning of the patients improve first, second erythema and papula, capillary expansion relatively slow. Facial subjective symptoms disappeared in 4 weeks basically, angiotelectasis fade more obvious after 4 weeks. 3. 54 patients TEWL were measured 25.73±12.47 before treatment while 34 patients were higher than the normal value.27 patients TEWL were measured 17.96±17.70 after treatment while all of them were normal except 5. 4. 33 patients felt cold before treatment, 9, 13, 15, 27 patie-nts’ symptom eased in 2 weeks, 4 weeks, 6 weeks,8 weeks respecti-vely;there were 10 female patients with dysmenorrheal, 3, 7, 7, 9 patients alleviated in 2 weeks, 4 weeks, 6 weeks, 8 weeks res-pectively;20 patients felt dry, 5, 8, 11, 15 patients relieved in 2 weeks, 4 weeks, 6 weeks, 8 weeks respectively; 17 patients with much dream, easy to wake up reduced the number of 1, 7, 9, 13 in 2 weeks, 4 weeks, 6 weeks, 8 weeks respectively. The other symptoms such as menstrual period with blood clots, hyposomnia, constipation, etc were alleviated accordingly.ConclusionTraditional Chinese medical science was dominate in the treat-ment of facial corticosteroid-dependent dermatitis, both improve-ing skin lesion and skin barrier function.
