Torreya grandis Fort. Ex Lind. is the Torreya genus of Taxaceae family. It has been cultivated 1,300 years in China. is a unique and rare species. Torreya grandis mainly in Zhejiang, Jiangsu, Anhui, Hubei and Sichuan and other 10 provinces. In addition, there are "Chinese Torreya town" in Zhuji City of Zhejiang Province. Moreover, Torreya grandis has many variations, Torreya grandis cv. merrillii is the best variation type and the unique cultivars. However, there has a large area of wild Torreya grandis in China, which some species were comparable with Torreya grandis cv. merrillii in flavor, quality and Torreya.In this paper, the chemical analysis and biological activities of varieties of Torreya grandis leaf, seed and aril were studied. In order to overall value varieties of Torreya grandis, GC-MS was measured with chemical analysis and relative content of varieties of seed oils of Torreya grandis.The results were as follows: 1. The content of total flavonoids and total phenolic were measured by Na NO2-Al(NO3)3 method and Folin-Ciocalteu method. Varieties of Torreya grandis leaf, seed and aril were extracted measured 70 % ethanol, and the crude extract of petroleum ether, ethyl acetate, n-butanol extract of total flavonoids and total phenolic content were measured. The results showed that: the content of total flavonoids and total phenolic were different in varieties of Torreya grandis, in which the most content of total flavonoid was Torreya grandis non-apiculata Hu seed, the most content of phenolic was total Torreya grandis cv. merrillii seed.2. It was extracted with ether and physical pressing method in getting Torreya grandis seed oil. GC-MS was used to analysis the chemical composition and relative content. The results showed that: when using different methods, the chemical composition and content of Torreya grandis seed oil were different. Moreover, the chemical composition and content of Torreya grandis seed oil were same in some degree, when measured with same approach. In addition, the main content was oleic acid and linoleic acid.3. The methods of DPPH, FRAP and total reducing power were used in different parts of varieties of Torreya grandis in antioxidant activity. And the hypoglycemic effect of extraction of n-butanol of Torreya grandis cv. merrillii leaf in alloxan-induced diabetic rats was studied. The results showed that: the strongest DPPH radical scavenging capacity was Torreya grandis non-apiculata Hu seed and leaf of Torreya grandis cv. merrillii. The strongest reduction of Fe3+ was Torreya grandis var. chingii Hu and the strongest total reducing capacity was Torreya grandis(xiaoyuan) leaf. The extraction of n-butanol of Torreya grandis cv. merrillii leaf significantly reduce serum fasting blood glucose, oral glucose tolerance, triglycerides, cholesterol and other indicators in alloxan-induced diabetic rats, and improve diabetes condition.In conclusion, the antioxidant activity, the content of oil yield and chemical composition were different in varieties of Torreya grandis seed. When compared with Torreya grandis cv. merrillii seed, other varieties of Torreya grandis were same in some degree. The extraction of n-butanol of Torreya grandis cv. merrillii leaf markedly improved hypoglycemic effect. This provides a reference for development of deep processing and application Torreya grandis.
