ObjectiveThe study aims to explore the herbal administration regularity for treating stranguria of the physicians in the Ming and the Qing Dynasty through the medical records in the Chinese Medical Classics. Our research results can be used in the clinical practice and pharmacological experiments. Undoubtedly our study can provide new insights into the research and development of new drugs and clinical study.MethodsBased on the Chinese Medical Classics, carrying on the study by the means of collecting and processing all the medical records refering to the stranguria therapy that the classical book have mentioned in the Ming and the Qing Dynasty. It can find out the relevant prescriptions, and have a systematic analysis on them from the following parts:the composing herbs, their frequency, their fuction、propertiestastes and meridian entries,and correlation and cluster analysis for all above. It also combine the ideas and methods of treating stranguria in the Ming and the Qing Dynasty. Though the conclusion of the study, we devote ourselves to discuss the herbal administration regularity for treating stranguria.ResultsIn the study, it can totally collect 288 prescriptions that have been recorded in theMing and Qing part of the Chinese Medicial Classics. All these prescriptions involved 186 herbs and 2536 number of times. Through the frequent and continuous statistics, it concluded that the physicians in the Ming and the Qing Dynasty mainly used the herbs that arecold or mild in property, sweet or bitter in taste, distribute mainly to kidney channel, then bladder、heart、small intestine、lung、liver、spleen and stomach channel. Among the function of herbs, from the most to the least, successively damp-clearing herbs(790 times)、tonic herbs(519 times)、antipyretic (514 times)、 blood-activating and stasis-eliminating herbs(113 times)、Qi-regulating herbs (107 times)、hemostasis herbs (93 times) and the others that cannot list here. More specifically, the commonly used herbs include the following:Bixie (70 times)、Cheqianzi (80 times)、Mudanpi (66 times)、Dihuang (80 times)、 Fuling (156 times)、Gancao(120 times)、Zhizi (78 times)、Huashi (76 times)、 Huangbai (79 times)、Zexie (109 times) and so on.ConclusionsThrough the research, it concluded that the physicians in the Ming and the QingDynastyattributed the pathogenesis of stranguria to kidney deficiency as the principal aspect and then damp heat of the body as the secondary aspect. Regarding the therapeutic principle, the most value the seeking of the etiology and pathogenesis, and then syndrome differentiation and treatment administration.Among the therapeutic herbs, the most frequently used herbs are the kind of damp-clearing herbs, followed by the tonic herbs and antipyretic, such as Bixie、Cheqianzi、Mudanpi、Dihuang、Fuling、Gancao、Zhizi、 Huashi、Huangbai、Zexie and so on. Our conclusions can be provide experiences and references for the clinical medication.
