Systematical study on the chemical constituents of natural medicinal plants is important for the discovery of the bioactive compounds. Meanwhile, it will help to develop new drugs. The research studies on the chemical constituents of two plant species, Lagotis brachystachya Maxim. and Caesalpinia bonduc (Linn.) Roxb. (lipophilic fraction), with various separation materials and chromatographic methods.By means of various chromatographic techniques, fourteen compounds were isolated from the ethanol extract of Lagotis brachystachya Maxim.. Application of on a series of modern spectral techniques such as UV, IR, MS, NMR, the structures of the compounds were identified as:heptadecan-8-ol (1), succinic acid (2), hexacosanoic acid (3), l-(4-hydroxy-phenyl)-ethan-one (4), β-sitosterol (5), P-daucosterol (6), chrysoeriol (7), luteolin (8), apigenin (9), tricin (10), lagotisiside (11), luteolin-7-O-β-glucoside (12), ursolic acid (13), and bicuculline (14). Among them, compounds (1,2,3,4,10,13 and 14) were firstly obtained from the plant.Furthermore, seven compounds were isolated from the liposoluble fraction of Caesalpinia bonduc (Linn.) Roxb.. These compounds were elucidated on the basis of spectroscopic methods as follows:5a,13a,150,16β-tetrahydroxy-la,6a, 7β-triacetoxy-12-oxocassane-14,16-epoxy (D-1),5a,13a,15p,16a-tetrahydroxy-1α,6a, 7β-triacetoxy-12-oxocassane-14,16-epoxy (D-2),2-acetoxycaesaldekarin e (D-3), spirocaesalmin (D-4), (E)-7-hydroxy-3-(4’-methoxybenzylidene) chroman-4-one (D-5), β-sitosterol (D-6), β-daucosterol (D-7). Expect compound D-3, others were found for the first time from the species.
