Caesalpinia bonduc (Linn.) Roxb, was one of the species of genus Leguminosae, which was widely spread in tropical zone in the world. It was mainly distributed in Guangxi? Guangdong and Taiwan province in our country. Caesalpinia bonduc was used to remove stasis to ease pain and clear away heat and toxic materials. Usually it showed significant effect on acute or chronic gastritis, gastric ulcer, carbuncle sore furuncle swollen and other diseases. To ascertain its chemical constituents and medical value, the ethanol extracts of the fruit of Caesalpinia bonduc was investigated. The subject primarily used repeated chromatography on silica gel colum and other separation material like MCI GEL CHP 20p?Sephadex LH-20 to obtain 29 compounds from the ethanol extracts of Caesalpinia bonduc. The structures of 29 compounds were identified on the basis of their physical and chemical properties and techniques of modern spectroscopy. The compounds were:oleanolic acid (Q1), betulinic acid (Q2),?-amyrin (Q3), ellagic acid (Q4), pentadecanoic acid (Q5),?-sitosterol (Q6), daucosterol (Q7), chrysoeriol (Q8), tetracosanoic acid (Q9), ethyl ?-D-glucopyranose (Q10), bonducellin (Q11), luteolin (Q12), apigenin (Q13), lupeol (Q14), quercetin (Q15),2-acetoxycaesaldekarin e (Q16), methyl 1?, 7?-diacetoxy-5?,12?-dihydroxy-cass-13(15)-en-16,12-olide-17 ?-carboxylate (Q17),1-[(12E,16E)-12,16-eicosadienoyl]-2-[(E, E)-7,11-octadecadienoyl]-3-stearoylglycerol (Q18), methy 12? (2S)-O-?-D-galactopyranosyl-7 (E) tetratriacontenoate (Q19), (2S)-1-O-heptatriacontanoyl glycerol (Q20),1-O-p-D-glucopyranosyl-(2S,3S,4R,8E)-2-[(2'R)-21-hydroxypalmitoylamino]-8-octadecene-1,3,4-triol (Q21),5-[1'(docosa-2'E,5'E-dienyl)]-1,4-dioxin-2,3-dione (Q22), (R, R)-trans-l-acetoxy-cyclohexan-2-ol (Q23),3,3'-dimethoxy ellagic acid (Q24), menthalactone (Q25),?-amyrin acetate (Q26), floridoside (Q27), lupeol acetate(Q28), kaempferol (Q29).These compounds had different skeleton types of terpenes, fatty oil, flavones, phenylpropanoids, sterides and their derivatives. Among them, Q3, Q19, Q21, Q22, Q23, Q25, Q26, Q27, Q28 were firstly found from the ethanol extracts of this plant. The subject mainly focused on the cytotoxic activities of diterpenes Q16 and Q17 on breast cancer cells and liver cancer cells by MTT assay. The results show that the compounds Q16(MCF-7/Hep-G2:IC50>50?M)and Q17(MCF-7:IC5037.9±2.6?M, Hep-G2:IC50>50?m) have some anti-tumor activities but the effects are not obvious. The result of this thesis enriched the chemical study on Caesalpinia bonduc (Linn.) Roxb, and provided factual basis for the further better uses of Caesalpinia bonduc.
