A Research On Words Of The Yellow Storm

Lao She, one of the excellent masters in modern literature of China, created many classicworks. In his creation, the use of Beijing dialect is really perfect, and his works show thetypical Beijing flavor. The Yellow Storm which created from1944to1946stands out as oneof the notable landmarks in the progress of his creation. Being set in the Anti-Japanese War, itdescribes the life of lower-income masses that lived in alleyway in Peking. This paper devotesitself to do study on The Yellow Storm. It tries to analysis the overview of vocabulary andsome distinctive words and phrase objectively and in details. This paper tries to provide areference to the after ages for the study of vocabulary of The Yellow Storm and Lao She’sworks.The paper is divided into three chapters:The prolegomenon illustrates the object of study, the content, the present situation,significance of the account and the research method.Chapter One describes the overview of vocabulary in The Yellow Storm. Weclassify vocabulary in The Yellow Storm and make statistics of the word frequency usingcomputer. Through statistics of word-frequency, we investigate the distribution of the wordsyllables as well as high or low frequency words. About the low frequency words, we mainlyanalyze some kinds of words, including items of kinship, society, disparagement and swearand character or status of human and objects.Chapter Two tries to analyze the dialectal words and “r-coloring” words in The YellowStorm. Through exhaustlessly searching of dialect, we investigate into these closed syllablesof corpora and feature of words meaning, and assort the dialectal words. There are also acertain number of “r-coloring” words. In this paper, we mainly analyze classification andcharacteristic of “r-coloring” words, which is the influence of “r-coloring” words to wordproperty, meaning and feeling.Chapter Three investigates into locution and quasi-fixed phrase of The Yellow Storm。Ref to locution, we mainly analyze the semantic features and usage of it. Mentioning quasi-fixed structure, we mainly carry out analyzing from structure, including the style of-A-B mode and reservation of the same part in idioms.
