Research On The Application Of The Virtual Reality Technology Among The Traditional Dwellings In Kashgar

Kashgar is not only a cultural ancient city of multi-ethnic residing, takingUyghur nationality as its principal part, but also is one of the earliest internationaltrading markets of the ancient western regions in our country. It was an importanttown of “the Silk Road” in history, and famous for flourishing commercial tradesfrom ancient times. With the continuous development of tourist industry andurbanization, when modern culture brings development opportunities to Kashgar, italso gives massive impacts to the living basis of minority culture, and the traditionalarchitectural culture ecology has suffered a lot of damages. Simultaneously asanti-earthquake remoulding and the construction of masonry cement architecture,those traditional historical residential architectures in Kashgar have been dismantledand rebuilt, which makes some architectures with historical breath at risk of vanishingnow. Government sectors attach great importance to the human life and property oflocal people and also have taken all kinds of protective measures. But there are someshortcomings in their protective measures, especially in the protection of the old citylandscape. Only depending on the form of words and pictures to record and preserveis very simple.With the continuous development of network and new media technology, thevirtual reality technology based on computer has been mature and popular whichformed a new direction-the virtual tour, it mixes images, sound, animation, video, etc.using computer virtual reality technology, through the virtual digital modelingbuilding a new form of display to make the information more intuitive and efficient.As people are paying more and more attention to this technology, its application anddevelopment have become wider and more rapid. Also, it places an important role inthe architectural digital protect.This paper is based on the application and implementation of virtual tour inKashgar traditional houses and shows the characteristics of3d virtual tour throughsimulation of traditional residence in Kashgar. The paper explains the Kashgar’s oldcity historical and cultural background, analyzes the value of traditional dwellingslandscape protection with digital three-dimensional virtual demonstration, and tries touse this technology to reappear excellent traditional dwellings. It will make morepeople understand and feel the architectural feature of the Kashgar excellenttraditional local-style dwelling houses. Also it hopes to find a way to make Kashgar’sstyle and features digitized.It highlights the common components of Kashgar’sbuildings and makes a interpretation in the program, and finally makes a3Dsimulating roaming exhibition of one traditional dwelling.The production steps of program in the paper are as follows: collecting imagesand data in field sketch--the analysis of common components and production of models--mapping CAD ichnography of dwellings--making3D models ofdwellings--setting virtual free lens--presenting textures and lights--rendering output--compounding camera animation--post special effects--dubbing andnarrating--outputting and saving.At last, some opinions are shared on the other applications of virtual realitytechnology in Kashgar’s old towns in the paper such as Xinjiang’s characteristic localdwellings and buildings teaching based on virtual reality technology, city Navigationquery systems, games development of local dwellings, establishment of3D virtualexhibition halls etc. Also, it discusses and outlooks the development direction ofcomputer virtual buildings roaming.
