This report is based on the English-Chinese translation of Pakistan Security Brief.The author classified the special terms on terrorism and counter-terrorism during thetranslation process, and briefly analyzed the translation strategies of eachclassification respectively.The original text is a collection of news reports about situations in Pakistan fromJanuary2012to June2013. The collection covers news about340days. The newsreporters described the political, military, diplomatic, economic, cultural, andeducational situations in Pakistan. The original text belongs to ESP, and the genre isjournalistic English. From the aspect of register, it mainly discusses terrorism andcounter-terrorism issues.The translation of special terms on terrorism and counter-terrorism in PakistaniEnglish literature appears to be the most difficult issue during the translationprocedure. The author collected538terms in total and classified them into severalcategories. Different translation strategies should be used in different categories. Thisreport briefly analyzes the translation strategies of three kinds of special termsrespectively. The translation of names should not only include the pronunciation, butalso related information such as the titles or social status; the translator should wellacquainted of the influence of the specific social, historical, linguistic and culturalsituations on vocabularies, so as to better translate the organizations and politicalparties on terrorism and counter-terrorism; the translating of the names of placesshould combine the use of pronunciation and notes.The report shows that a translator should have a comprehensive understanding ofspecial terms on terrorism and counter-terrorism when translating English literature ofa special register. Different translation skills should be applied on the basis of acomprehensive understanding of the cultural background of the special terms. Theauthor hopes that the report can be of some assistance for new translators on thetranslation strategies of special terms, and the collection of the special terms can be ofsome help for the researchers of English literature on terrorism and counter-terrorism.
