Effective Preparation For Liaison Interpreting

As the reform and opening up moves forward in a much deeper process, the demand for interpreters is growing massively. Besides, the fruitful achievements on interpretation’s academic studies have drawn increasing attention from the researchers. Meanwhile, MTI programs in Chinese universities have witnessed leapfrog progress by putting more emphasis on the training and improvement of the interpreters’skills. By that, it means important as it is to do well in theory learning and study, the emphasis should be laid on the actual practice on those theories so as to make sure perfection in the interpreters’professional skills.This project report is founded on the reporter’s liaison interpreting for Athlete Role Model Emma Snowsill in the CEP of 2014 Nanjing Youth Olympic Games. On the basis of participating in the training session and practical liaison interpreting experience, the reporter analyzes the major problems encountered in the project, including a wide range of knowledge reserve, ubiquitous culturally-loaded information, flexibility in interpreting and memory stress. After detailed research and discussion, the reporter proposes several tactics to cope with those problems, including encyclopedic knowledge accumulation, scenario simulation, various interpreting skills practice and mentality training, etc. Then the reporter reviews the main points of the whole report and draws a conclusion, highlighting the purpose and significance of this report. Meanwhile, the reporter calls for liaison interpreters to attach great importance to pre-interpreting preparation, thus improving the level and quality of liaison interpreting.
