As a significant strategy in simultaneous interpreting, anticipation has drawn theattention of more and more scholars working in the area of interpreting in recent years. However, while a number of researches have been conducted regarding anticipation inSI, most of them focus on the theoretical analysis of the strategy, instead of workingon the actual realization of this strategy in the process of SI. In light of this reality, this paper is an attempt to explore the process of anticipation in SI and to figure outsome ways to improve the ability of anticipation.Concerning that interpreting is a language-related activity, this study will becarried out mainly from the perspective of language and the relationship betweenlinguistic schemata and anticipation will be closely looked at in the paper. With adetailed analysis of the necessity of anticipation in SI based on the differencesbetween Chinese and English and an introduction to Schema Theory in general, thepaper will focus on the issue of how linguistic schemata, covering one’s knowledge ofboth Chinese and English as well as of the differences between the two languages, etc.work in achieving anticipation in SI. In order to present a clear picture of the processof anticipation and how and what kinds of linguistic schemata can be applied toanticipation, an experiment will also be conducted in the paper.
