This paper addresses the importance of anticipation as a strategy in simultaneousinterpretation (SI). First of all, based on Gile’s Effort Model, the author justifies thenecessity of anticipation in SI. Next, the author does an observational study byanalyzing the audio materials of SI in five international meetings, and classifies thetypes of anticipation into two categories, namely, linguistic anticipation andextra-linguistic anticipation. Finally, based on the practice of SI at a simulated forum, the author proposes some suggestions for improving the ability of anticipation in SI. |
