In the age of globalization, multinational corporations are extending their tentaclesinto every nook where profit can be made. They are also drafting substantial bindingagreements (generally in English) in the principle of freedom of contract to escorttheir transactions. In China, this has greatly accelerated the demand for the translationof English business contracts. The translation of English business contracts will notonly help to safeguard the interests of involving parties, but also provides somethoughts for Chinese companies while concluding Chinese contracts with each other.This is a report on the translation of Purchase Agreement, a business contractexecuted between a Chinese company and an Australian company. The aim of thisreport is to summarize and apply the principles of translating business contracts, inthis way providing readers with some thoughts in translating English businesscontracts. The report starts from the analysis of the linguistic features of Englishbusiness contracts. Based on the linguistic features, the report generalizes fivetranslating principles that will ensure the reproduction of the characteristics of originaldocument in the translation.
