As an important part of international transaction,business contracts are playing an increasingly significant role.To some extent,business contracts determine the success and smoothness of the whole transaction,so the translation of business contracts is particularly important.The quality of business contract translation is not only related to the economic interests of the parties,but also affects their future economic cooperation.The translation texts selected are real import business contracts.Skopos theory is the theoretical basis of this practical report.The biggest difference between business contracts and other types of texts is that the purpose,functionality and practicality of business contracts are higher than those of other types of texts,and it is very important to achieve its text function and purpose in translation.Therefore,Skopos theory plays an important role in the study of English-Chinese translation strategies of business contracts.At the same time,the translator discusses the linguistic characteristics of business contracts,analyzes and summarizes the problems existing in the specific business contracts,and applies theory of Skopos to the business contract translation.From the perspective of Skopos theory,the translator puts forward strategies for translating business contracts from English to Chinese at the lexical,syntactic and discourse levels: at the lexical level,for the translation of archaic words,literary words should be chosen;for the synonyms combination,repetition should be avoided,but meaning integrity should be guaranteed;for words with multiple interpretations,technical terms should be adopted in this legal text.At the syntactic level,for the translation of long and complex sentences,the translator adopts the method of division so that long sentences are not as complicated as before,and then restructures the sentences to make the translation more perfect;for the translation of passive sentences,the translator changes it into active voice to make it more in line with the language habits of the target language readers.As for the translation of discourse,the strategy of“formalization” is adopted,and some conventional expression are applied.
